April 2, 2021our quilt showcase, 2nd try
April 30, 2021Hello all, Mary Ellen here.
So…have you gone on any road trips lately? Now that I am fully vaccinated, I’m feeling a bit braver and am venturing further afield. (Don’t you hate it that nearly everyone starts their sentences with the word “so” these days?) Last weekend a friend and I drove out to the Iroquois Wildlife Preserve (Alabama swamps) to eagle watch. We were quite lucky to see about 5 bald eagles and 2 nesting sites. There are having “eagle watches” at the Cayuga overlook each Saturday through April. Volunteers have spotting scopes out and are very friendly in answering questions. Nice relaxing day.
Another nice road trip for some of you might be a drive to the Material Rewards quilt shop outside of Dansville NY. I used to pass by it on the way to visit my mom. And since I was going right by it, of course I had to stop in. Marty and Teri have started posting Tuesday Tidbit videos–this week’s is all about constructing half square triangles in a variety of ways. Click here if you’d like to watch. The least confusing route to get there is to go east on the NYS Thruway til you get to the Pittsford exit. Head south on the 390. When you get to exit #4 (I think it’s #4, it’s the 2nd Dansville exit heading toward Hornell) get off and turn right at the end of the exit ramp. Material rewards will be on your left in about a minute or two. Beautiful fabric, lots of samples, and friendly folks.

Linda Hunter told us Material Rewards is closing and is having a sale in May. All fabric is 30% off.
My husband and I took a great weekend trip to Watkins Glen for his birthday. We stopped in Ithaca to go to Quilter’s Corner. It is definitely worth the drive. The shop is packed full of every kind of fabric you could image. There are wonderful books and every kind of notion you can imagine. We hiked in Watkins Glen and then went back to Ithaca to walk along the lake later in the day. Dinner was at a great restaurant in Geneva.
One of my students went to Material Rewards last week and was disappointed that most people were not wearing masks. Now that things have lightened up, I’m not sure if people will be comfortable without masks or not. I have been vaccinated for almost three months, but am still not sure about shopping without one. If everyone is honest, that would not be a problem.
