a corona quilt

Hello all, Mary Ellen here.

Well a lot has developed since my last post.

Thanks to all of you who are commenting. The comments help to encourage me to keep posting, and I hope they also are fun for others to read.

Since our March meeting is cancelled, I will continue the deal of entering the names of commenters into a drawing for prizes until we have our birthday celebration…whenever that will be.

Are you one of the hoarders who is emptying store shelves faster than the store can keep up? I mean really people, how much toilet paper do you need?!

Or are you one of those who is taking no precautions at all, hoping that this will all just go away overnight? I hope you are listening to the doctors and other medical experts. Taking care of yourself is also taking care of your community.

Let’s talk about what we can do to make these days a bit more enjoyable, especially if we are quarantined for awhile. I’m pretty confident that most of us have some fabric at home we could work with. Let’s brainstorm some ideas for a project/challenge we could each work on in our sewing rooms, little by little according to the “rules” of our challenge, to be shared at a meeting following our release from “social distancing”.

I’ll start us off, but I’d love to get ideas from you to add along the way. Here’s this weekend’s throw down. Go through your stash (no purchasing new fabric if at all possible!) and choose a color scheme. Find 2 fat quarters (or equivalent amount) of a light value, 2 of a medium value, and 2 darks. Also choose a background: white or “creams”. That’s it to start. More to come next week.

Throw those ideas at me, ladies!

How about using the fast eight HST from ten inch squares, could be used for all kinds of stars. Other ten inch squares could be used for Jeanne Doan stars. The rest of the strips could be sashing.

I love your posts. Keep them coming. 😁

Great idea! I miss my quilting fix with friends but it would be fun to do something online. Do we start with a theme for this project? You are already alluding to the restriction some of us are feeling by limiting us to six fat quarters.

Hi Anna, I have a theme in mind but not telling you yet!! I might get some inspiration from one of you readers, so no commitment from me yet.

I too love your posts. I am able to come up with your fabric requirements. I wish I had idea what to do with them, but I don’t. So, I’ll just wait until next week for your idea.

With all that’s going on, we’re leaving Florida early and flying home on Monday March 16th. I can’t believe I just packed a nine roll package of toilet paper in new suitcase I just bought !!! I’ve missed my quilting friends And my sewing room.

Keep posting Mary Ellen. It’s been a life line for me !!

I will gather the fabrics required and follow along. Thanks for suggesting the idea.

How about using the fabrics to make a square-on-a-square, maybe with sashing or with triangles of the cream or white to fill in the spaces between blocks. Make table runner &/or placemats for celebration of when we can next go to a store & actually buy toilet paper & paper towels. Use medium for 1st square, then light for next round and dark for 3rd round, or your own choice. We could call it “Corona Boxed In”

What a great idea having our quilting community online!
I’m in. Hummm, now what to do…thinking thinking, this may take a while.
